Destiny:  the event(s) that will necessarily happen to a particular person or thing in the future.

Psalm 139 continues to be one of my favorite passages of scripture.  It reminds me that I am just the way God intended for me to be and as my Creator he knows me inside and out.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. - Psalm 139:13-14

It also reminds me that my life has purpose and meaning.  It is confounding and amazing that from the beginning of time God has had a plan just for me that only I can fulfill.

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. - Psalm 139:16

In other words, I have a destiny.  You have a destiny.  God put us here on purpose for a purpose.  Here’s the thing.  It’s up to you and me to fulfill it.  God won’t force his will on us.  We must choose his ways.  By the renewing of our mind and the surrender of our heart we become aligned with God’s plan and our destiny can be fulfilled.

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. – Romans 8:28

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.  – Ephesians 2:10

'For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.’ – Jeremiah 29:11

I heard Rick Warren say one time that God can turn “disaster into destiny.”  How true!  In fact, that is my story and yours.  Without Christ we are a disaster.  Rebels without a cause.  But in Christ, we have a mission and a clear role in fulfilling that mission.

Dennis Jernigan wrote a powerful song several years ago that found it’s way into a musical we did at church.  Years later I continue to sing it and am reminded of all that I am in and through Christ.

Written by Dennis Jernigan

He calls me servant, calls me warrior; Calls me royalty!

He calls me resurrected one! He calls me His redeemed!

He calls me higher, calls me far beyond my wildest dream!

He calls my heart to come and be all he can see! This is my destiny!

He calls me chosen! New creation! Trophy of his His grace!

He gives me strength to fight the fight and run to win the race!

He tells me he delights in me while singing over me,

Accepting me as His beloved bride-to-be!

This is my destiny! This is my destiny!
